Textile heritage, future-focused

TenCate develops high performance solutions for sports, play, recreation and outdoor living. Combining more than 300 years of textile expertise with advanced material science, biomechanics and engineering, the company develops, manufactures, installs and maintains artificial turf systems, hybrid grass systems, running tracks and sports lighting for every level of sport, from local communities and grassroots clubs to elite sports organisations worldwide. Operating in more than 60 countries with nearly 5,000 employees, TenCate combines global expertise with local delivery. Research at the Center for Turf Innovation (CTI) drives continuous innovation, helping improve performance, maximise availability and advance circularity by design.

From research and yarn production to installation and recycling, every stage is aligned to secure consistent quality, reduce environmental impact and speed up innovation. Local partnerships add on-the-ground expertise, ensuring systems fit both context and need.

The Centre for Turf Innovation in the Netherlands is a 1,500 m² hub where engineers and scientists work together on surfaces that perform, last and support circular use. Research brings biomechanics, material science and player feedback together. Every product moves through a clear process, from early testing to real-world trials across different sports.

The shift to circular turf is underway. Infill-free systems and single-polymer designs like ONE-DNA™ simplify recycling, extend lifespan and reduce waste. Independent lifecycle assessments and ESG reporting keep progress measurable and transparent.

Access to play is central. Partnerships with organisations such as the Johan Cruyff Foundation bring sport and movement to places where good facilities are not always available.
