Bangor City builds for the future with a Pure PT pitch
Bangor City
Bangor City Football Club, established in 1876, is among Wales’ oldest clubs and holds a deep connection with Bangor, Gwynedd. Over generations, it has been a vital part of local daily life. Currently, the club's significance is evolving with the installation of Wales' first Pure PT pitch installed by TigerTurf UK, in partnership with the Cymru Football Foundation. This new pitch instantly infused the city with energy. As the area's first 4G surface, it has generated excitement along with new commercial and social prospects. Previously limited, these opportunities now offer a fresh outlook for children, Bangor City, and the stadium itself.
Before this pitch was installed, many matches were played on natural grass, often across multiple venues. This meant three to four home fixtures every week on the same grass pitches. As a result, the surfaces became heavily worn, leading to postponed and rescheduled matches. When play was not possible by the end of March, students and youth players lost valuable opportunities to play and develop.
Facilities that enable growth and ambition
Access to this new facility makes a significant difference. As the very first 4G pitch in the United Kingdom, it underlines Bangor City’s ambition to look ahead. When teams travel away and talk about the surface they play on, it becomes clear just how distinctive this step is. The pitch also represents a major step forward for women’s and girls’ football. With around 150 players, ranging from four years old to senior level, the facilities provide a strong foundation for continued growth. They help Bangor City attract and retain talent. Once players become accustomed to playing on this pitch, they rarely want to play anywhere else.
More enjoyment, greater development
Among the youth teams, the impact is immediately visible. Every week, players arrive excited to step onto the pitch. The quality of play and confidence levels have improved significantly in a short period of time. Players know exactly what to expect: no mud, no unpredictable bounces, no worn or uneven areas. The pitch is level and consistent, allowing full focus on the game itself – passing, teamwork and the development of individual skills. For Bangor City, this pitch is therefore not just a technical upgrade, but a long-term investment in development, enjoyment and future potential.
