Special Olympics Kingdom Games at Ergilio Hato Stadium

Curaçao hosted the Special Olympics Kingdom Games from November 20 to 24. Part of the event took place at the Ergilio Hato Stadium, where matches were played on a Pure PT surface. The event brought together athletes with intellectual disabilities from across the Kingdom of the Netherlands, including participants from Bonaire, Aruba, Sint Maarten, Saba, Sint Eustatius, and the Netherlands, to celebrate inclusion, perseverance, and the power of sport.

The Kingdom Games were supported by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Special Olympics International, Special Olympics Curaçao, FDDK, and Thinc Ahead. These partners provided the structure and resources needed to create a professional and inclusive environment.

On Curaçao, the SDK sports complex served as the central hub for the event. Alongside football, athletics, swimming, and bocce, the program included demonstrations such as powerlifting and the Motor Activity Training Program, offering opportunities for athletes with a wide range of support needs. This variety showed how broad the impact of sport can be for this community.

The Kingdom Games highlighted the importance of well-organized, accessible facilities for athletes who require additional support. Curaçao delivered a clear setup and high-quality sports venues, and this was reflected in the well-structured event.
