Telstar builds on success with Verdemix

After securing promotion to the Eredivisie in 2025 and retaining its place in its first season back at the highest level of Dutch football, Telstar continues to invest in its stadium and playing surface. Following a careful selection process, the club chose Verdemix by Limonta Sport for its stadium pitch. This makes Telstar the first Eredivisie club to install Verdemix on its stadium field.

Reinforcing natural grass

A stadium pitch has to meet different demands at the same time. Players expect the characteristics of natural grass, while the surface needs to remain stable and playable throughout a demanding football season. Verdemix reinforces the natural grass pitch below the surface. Strong polyethylene fibres are injected vertically into the rootzone in a defined pattern. As the natural grass develops around these fibres, the rootzone gains additional structural support. This creates a hybrid construction that retains natural grass as the playing surface while adding reinforcement where it is needed.

Five days to reinforce a complete pitch

The project brings together the expertise of two TenCate companies, CSC Sport and Limonta Sport. Using two specialised machines, the complete fibre injection process was completed in just five days. Keeping that installation window short reduced the impact on pitch availability and allowed the work to fit within Telstar's sporting schedule. Throughout the project, CSC Sport and Limonta Sport worked closely with Telstar and SRO Kennemerland, which is responsible for the daily maintenance of the stadium pitch.

Installation is only the beginning

A hybrid pitch remains a living natural grass surface. Its performance therefore depends not only on the system itself, but also on how the pitch is managed over time. That is why the project did not end when the installation was completed. The grounds team received training and practical guidance on maintaining the new hybrid pitch. Grass growth, mowing, aeration, irrigation, nutrition and recovery all remain part of managing the surface. The injected fibres provide structural reinforcement, while skilled grounds management remains essential to the condition of the natural grass throughout the season.

For Telstar, Verdemix adds reinforcement beneath the surface while keeping natural grass at the heart of the pitch. And for Verdemix, it marks a new step in Dutch professional football: from the training ground to the Eredivisie stadium.
