World First: Full-Size ONE-DNA™ Football Pitch

In Utrecht, the world’s first full-size football pitch made entirely from ONE-DNA™ turf is now in use. The field was delivered through a collaboration between GreenFields, CSC Sport, LimeGreen and the Municipality of Utrecht. It shows how circular innovation in sport can move from concept to daily use. This is not a pilot or showcase. It is a working, match-ready pitch. Made from one polymer, the system can be fully recycled at end of life — without material separation or quality loss. The field combines high-level playability with a clear circular path.
From Innovation to Application
ONE-DNA™ was originally developed for landscaping and urban spaces. With this project, it now proves its value in professional sport. The Utrecht pitch is the first to apply this mono-material system on a full scale. By eliminating material mixing and reducing energy during production, the system supports closed-loop recycling while maintaining surface resilience, comfort and safety.
A Blueprint for Circular Sport
This pitch reflects a wider shift in how sports infrastructure is being designed and procured. In the Netherlands, sustainability criteria such as MKI scores and EPDs are becoming key in public tenders. The project shows what becomes possible when municipalities and technical partners align around long-term goals. It is a working example of how sport and sustainability can reinforce each other.
